15 months today

So EARLY this am (7:30 - that's early for me!) we had C's 15 mo. appt & here are his stats:

Height: 31.75" (75th percentile)
Weight: 24 lbs 13 oz (55-60th percentile - a bit skewed)
Head Circ: 20.25" (off the charts - shocker)

Both his head & body grew a 1/2" from his 1 yr check-up. That head just keeps growing & growing! :) The poor kid has only gained about 4 oz from his 1 yr check-up which is technically not right. Since we both had the stomach flu last week, I think we both lost some weight...happy for me but felt bad for Carter man. He actually lost about 4-5 oz from his weigh in at his sick visit last week so I would say he has lost a good lb & a 1/2 from what he would normally be. His appetite has changed a lot recently (diminished that is) & his food preferences have changed a lot recently too. I guess he is just going through a transition phase or something...who knows.

He got 2 shots...MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) & the HIB. Dr. Smith said he looked great & was a healthy little boy. When he walked in the door the first thing he commented on was how well he was walking....he said he was walking better than most kids his age...good to hear & know! He also said his canines are coming in & you can really see them if you pull his upper lips back like he did...wow they look huge & I'm sure painful!! So we were right that he is teething & supposedly those are some of the worst that will come in...hopefully they'll come in quick & with the least amount of pain as possible! That might explain the appetite/food issues too.

What he is up to recently ~
- He says the usual "mama, dada, coco (all animals are coco), ball, uh-oh, go, no & shoes is the newest word (mommy taught him that...it sounds like "chews" & is so precious!)"
- He started pointing a few weeks ago & he'll point up or at a light if you ask him "where's the light?".
- He climbs up & down the stairs constantly...that's pretty much his new fav. game.
- He has mastered our horizontal door handles...we haven't really found a lock we love for them yet but that is on our short list. He also loves going in & out of the animal/child gate we have inb/w the foyer & den...mastered that lock too.
- He has extended his bedtime to around 7:45 or so. I love that I don't feel so rushed to feed him, bathe him & get him to bed. We can really enjoy some fun play time with him after work.
- Oh & an update on the milk situation...milk does a body good, as long as it's 2%! Yea for drinking milk!!

Daddy's Mini-me

So let's face it...Carter is a spitting image of his Daddy & I just love it! He's a boy so he should look like his father...I do think he has some part of my eyes & his hair is def. mine, but for the most part he is all Flurry.

A group of people from Justin's work had a get together one week night recently. C had a great time & had fun trying on Daddy's hat...he decided to wear it just like Daddy does...too cute not to take a pic!

Daddy's new project

Now that Justin built Carter's entire closet & did an incredible job for that matter; he ponders and dreams up other things to build all the time. Literally DIY network is on our TV constantly. This is the latest project...an outdoor storage bin for our patio furniture cushions with a dual purpose of having extra seating out on the porch. This is still a work-in-progress...we've been just a tiny bit busy recently....but the finished product will have cedar around the outside & obviously a lid & somehow be waterproof. We've struggled to find something similar that will fit all of our cushions. I do love that J is so handy & it is a lot of fun to have personalized, one-of-a-kind things! Another good reason I married this man. :)

Swimming

A few w/e's ago we went over to our friend Ginger's pool & then cooked out afterwards. This was the first time C has swam since last summer. He had a great time & amazingly still fit in the same float!

Trying out our hat before we get to the pool while eating a snack...he could've cared less that it was halfway on his head probably b/c there was food right in front of his face!

My two cuties!

G & J playing ball with C.

We set up a pool in the backyard this w/e & Carter had a blast playing in it. It's big enough for all 3 of us which is nice too. Those pics to come!

Bedtime

Let the silliness begin...

Obviously not camera shy...probably since I flash it in front of his face all the time!!

I was trying to get a pic of his cute little naked booty playing with the bathroom cabinets, but then he started running at me so I got this instead...

Reading books with Daddy on the floor while getting dressed...
"Reading" on his own...he is really starting to love books!

So I am finally better (thank goodness...it's been a long week) but C now has a terrible runny nose & we are pretty sure he is teething...I think his upper teeth...the gaps inb/w his teeth...might be coming in. He doesn't have much of an appetite, has been fussy most of the day & is drooling like crazy. Hopefully we'll be out of this soon...I feel like we can't catch a break recently with all of our sicknesses!!

Lions & Tigers & Bears...

ok so not technically bears...I think they took the polar bears away awhile ago, but here are the pics of the zoo from this past Sat. We had a great time & can't wait to go back soon!

The bengal tiger taking a dip...it was a HOT day!
Look at this gorgeous white tiger!
Carter was too worried about where his paci went to notice the bobcat walking just inches from him.

I was sad to see the water play area was closed for maintenance.
Check out these lorikeets that you can go in & feed...they loved sitting on Justin's shoulders.

Carter trying out his hard hat to wear in Kangaroo Kountry's little mine.

Lemurs...one of my favs!
The best part was getting to feed the giraffes!

And my favorite pic of the whole trip....isn't she precious?!?

It's all in the family

Sickness that is!! I have caught whatever bug/virus Carter has & boy is it miserable. I stayed at home from work yesterday even though I didn't feel too terrible but had gotten sick early that morning. Well as the day progressed it got worse & last night was horrible. I can't keep anything down & I have had these crazy stomach cramps. C went to school yesterday & was totally fine but I think he may be having a relapse as he woke up with throw up in his bed & the lovely spastic diarrhea is back! (Sorry if I'm grossing anyone out.) J has stayed home to take care of us today....I just hope he doesn't come down with this either or else we'll all be in a lot of trouble. We took C to the dr this am but he said that there is just a terrible virus going around & there is really nothing we can do. So we'll just be at home waiting this all out. I am enjoying getting to watch The Price is Right right now while laid up on the couch. :)

A random note....

For those fellow bachelor/bachelorette watchers or those that just hear about all the drama of it in the news...who knew this wasn't coming?!?!!?

Happy Dad's Day!

Here he is "riding" his Father's Day present...a new bike. That's what he really wanted & I of course don't know a thing about bikes so I let him pick it out for himself. It is a street/mountain bike...doesn't have the really skinny tires or the big chunky ones either. Hopefully this won't be one of those sporadic purchases that never gets used...I think this all goes back to the Diamond Dash race we participated in where we rode bikes for over 2 hours. It is great exercise & he mentioned getting me one & then either adding a seat on the back of one or a pull wagon type thing for C...I'll keep u posted on that. :)

I hope all you Dads out there (I know my Dad & my FIL read my blog often) have had a wonderful day & w/e!! We really appreciate all you do for us!

In other news, we have had one sick baby this w/e!! It started out Sat. morning where I sat him down in his highchair to eat some b-fast & he just threw up all of a sudden but nothing big. Well we had plans to go to the zoo with Justin's Dad & Stepmom @ 9 when they open to beat the crowd & heat. They ended up coming over to our house & Carter seemed fine, no fever or anymore sickness, so on we went to the zoo. We had a blast & I got TONS of pics (upcoming post) & even though we were hot he seemed perfectly fine. Well later on in the afternoon after his nap, I sat him down in his highchair again to eat a snack & he instantly got sick again...very strange. He is totally fine except for that, eating normal, no fever, happy as a lark, etc. We try to run out to the store & he starts projectile vomiting in his car seat right after we leave. At this point, I head to the store to grab some emetrol...never used it before but my SIL said she has given it to my nieces & it has helped. You're supposed to give a 2 yr old & up 1-2tsp so we gave him a 1/2 tsp...I figure that's the rule of thumb for everything else that is over the age limit for C.  (Some ppl might gasp at the fact that I didn't call the dr first, but as much as I've called them before about things that say "consult a physician" I figured it was probably safe.) The emetrol does seem to help but later on that night he starts getting sick the other way too. I do have to say that we have been very fortunate that he has only gotten sick like this one other time. I can't tell you the last time I have washed as many loads of laundry as I did yesterday in one day. Today though we have had no vomit just the other & he has guzzled I don't know how much pedialyte so at least I know he is hydrated. Poor thing has terrible diaper rash though which has made it so hard to change his diapers when you know how bad it is hurting him. Appetite hasn't been too great today but he has been his same old self. So here's to hoping that this is just a 24 hr bug or so & that he is back to his normal bowel functions tom! :) If not, we'll be making our way to Vestavia Peds.
